Cosmetic Surgery New York: Photos: Before and After: Liposuction: Abdomen

This healthy young dancer had just a bit more thickness over the central abdomen than she desired.
Liposuction was used to generally thin the fat of the anterior abdomen, producing natural-appearing improvement in the contour.
This Photo reveals a slight lack of definition.
Here, the shadows reveal a more carved look without the creation of any abnormal form or irregularity.
This woman of 32 years keeps herself in good shape and watches her diet. She, like her mother before her, tends to carry extra thickness around the mid-section. The quality of the skin is good, as would be expected in this young woman.
Full abdominal liposuction (tapered into the hips and flanks) has produced a notable change in her appearance.
The waist is better defined in this Photo and the anterior abdomen more delicate in appearance.
This 40 year old desires aggressive thinning of the abdomen and lateral trunk. She is not able to affect these areas with diet and exercise.
Liposuction over the entire abdomen and hips has made a substantial difference. Notice, however, that there are shadows that betray the presence of mild post-op irregularities.
The liposuction does not change that portion of the shape that comes from the underlying abdominal wall. The patient is happy to accept the slight irregularities in exchange for a more defined abdomen.
A 42 year old man in generally good shape. He is active and not far from ideal weight. He remains concerned about the thickness of fat over the central abdomen.
After liposuction he has gained significant definition. We have not tried to create "six-pack abs," since extreme thinning of the fat often leeds to severe and potentially uncorrectable contour irregularities.
This change to his anterior abdomen is quite like what he had hoped for. (His breasts and flanks were treated simultaneously. See the galleries for flanks and gynecomastia.)
The abdomen of a woman in her forties shows some fatty excess on an otherwise attractive form. There are signs of moderate looseness in the skin.
After liposuction, the skin has contracted quite well, despite some pre-op laxity. Notice the scars from liposuction access incisions. (These were placed in old scars already present pre-operatively.)
The patient was most bothered by the "little pot" of fat over the lower central tummy. That is seen well here.
The "little pot" is gone post-operatively.
This patient developed excess central abdominal fat years after undergoing a gynecological procedure via midline incision. The contraction of the scar and the excess of fat produced a commonly seen "loaf of bread," or "front buttocks" appearance to the abdomen.
The patient underwent scar release and revision and liposuction of the anterior abdomen. (The scar is still young and red in this image.)
While not perfect, this result shows substantial improvement in overall girth, and elimination of the deep crease caused by the incision.
This patient had truncal obesity, despite a healthy lifestyle. She desired aggressive treatment of her abdomen which was carried out employing liposuction.
The patient is seen here, transformed. The result reflects both the change from liposuction and subsequent weight loss by the patient! This is weight loss that would have been best accomplished before the surgery.
This patient was very happy with her surgical result. However, it is well to note that some of the apparent irregularity in her result might have been avoided had surgery followed weight loss.
This patient might profitably be contrasted to Patient 7. She was also treated with reasonable aggressiveness, but at a weight that she could and would maintain.
There has been dramatic change to the central trunk, but the contours still fit seamlessly with the surrounding areas, and there are no significant irregularities.
Perfectly smooth results are often not achieved, and can in no way be guaranteed. However, operating on a patient at or near the maintainable weight, and avoiding overly aggressive resection, can go a long way to helping make the outcome appear natural and attractive.
This image gives a clear impression of a "spherical" midsection, largely related to central abdominal and hip fat.
Liposuction of the abdomen has been accomplished showing respect for the overall character of the greater form.
We see here that tissues are thick, and that the abdominal wall itself protrudes.
Protrusion of the abdominal wall has, of course, not been eliminated by the liposuction. However, notable change in the character of the truncal shape is evident.
This man carries extra fat over the central abdomen, especially in the lower quadrants.
After abdominal liposuction, a change for the better is evident. (The patient was also treated in the flanks.)
The thinning of the area beneath the umbilicus is brought into particular focus here.
Another case of central abdominal fatty excess, complicated by a tethering vertical scar, (this, in a 50 year old female).
Liposuction alone was done without scar revision.
The character of the anterior abdomen is clearly changed. The patient was pleased.
This is a woman in her late 50's. She possessed better than average skin quality and wished to undergo aggressive thinning of her central trunk.
No gross irregularities have been produced by judicious liposuction of the abdomen.
The oblique Photo confirms a substantial thinning of the contour. Note, however, an area of slight skin laxity just above the umbilicus.
This is a "big guy!" He watches his food and works out regularly, but retains extra fat over the abdomen (and flanks).
Liposuction has accomplished what his program of physical culture has failed to do.
The lower truncal girth is clearly great in this photo.
Still a "big guy," but with more refined contours.
