Before & After Breast Reduction
Before & After Breast Reduction

A patient with very large, dense breasts.
The young, noticeable scars of the early post-op period. (This patient lost about 2 pounds from each breast.)
Reduction also rejuvenates the shape of the breast.
This patient seeks both reduction and improvement in the size and shape symmetry of her breasts.
Symmetry is much improved, but the right breast is still slightly larger.
There is mild hypertrophy (elevation) in these young scars.
Very large breasts and some asymmetry.
The breasts are substantially reduced, but have been left full enough to balance the patient's "full" figure.
Pre-operative pendulousness is marked.
The breast is both reduced and significantly elevated.
A very fair-skinned woman in her fifties has finally found the weight of her breasts too much to bear.
3 months following a reduction of more than 2 1/2 pounds per breast, the patients young scars are obvious on her pale skin. (They will fade substantially with time.)
Improvements in patient comfort result from both the loss of breast weight and the elevation, or "shortening" of the breast.
Breasts of this size are often reduced using "free nipple grafting."
In this case it was possible to leave the nipples attached to a lower portion of the breast. Note, however, that there has been some slight "bottoming" of the lower central breast after many months of healing.
This resection was about 4 pounds per breast and made this patient very much more comfortable.
An enormous resection is planned here, and the distance the nipples will need to move is extreme.
This shows the patient 10 months after a resection of more than 5 pounds from each breast. The nipples were removed and regrafted to the breast after reduction. Note the incomplete return of pigmentation to the tips of the nipples.)
The shape achieved is quite acceptable to the patient, and her life has been transformed by the removal of this considerable burden.
An 18 year old wishing for moderate reduction. She wishes to participate in sports and her breasts have been a hindrance.
Result at 8 months following breast reduction.
These scars are not at all bad for this stage. Young people, in general, tend to produce more exuberant scars.
A woman of 60 years has experienced slow, steady growth of her breasts throughout adult life.
Appearance 10 months after breast reduction.
Post-operatively the breast is reduced enough to give relief, while still full enough to fit the patient's form.
A woman in her 20s with very dense, heavy breasts. Notice that the patient's right areola is slightly lower than the left.
While symmetry is acceptable in the post-op result, the right areola remains slightly lower than the left.
These scars are almost fully mature.
This patient desired reduction of modest degree, wishing to experience reshaping as much as the removal of a moderate amount of breast weight.
The breast has been made more compact and less pendulous. It is still full.
There is a modest amount of hyperpigmentation in the skin adjacent to the scars.
This woman seeks both some measure of reduction and a dramatic reshaping of her breasts.
Nipple-areolae are now in a central position of prominence. There is slight hypertrophy in the scars of this Hispanic patient.
The patient is satisfied with both the shape and comfort of her new breasts.
A very fair patient with macromastia and some asymmetry that she would like addressed.
One year after reduction the patient has had nice fading of her scars. She is pleased with the degree of symmetry achieved, (this degree of symmetry is not always seen post-operatively).
The profile is more youthful and attractive after surgery.
A woman of heavy build seeks relieve from pains related to her breast mass. However, she sees the need to retain enough breast tissue to balance her lower body.
The breasts are reduced, shortened and lifted.
More reduction than this would likely have left this patient looking "bottom heavy."
A woman in her early 20's sought moderate reduction. First among the side effects of reduction is scarring, and no one can predict what the quality of scars will be.
The single biggest factor determining the quality of scarring is the genetics of the patient. Here a patient of Latin background has made scars that are quite good by any objective standard. Though less than typical in Latinas, the quality of scarring is a tribute to her individual genetics rather than to the skill of her surgeon.
This Photo shows the breasts at 7 months post-op.
