A man of 40 years concerned about his "love handles" (and a bit of lower abdominal fat excess).
The change in flank contour as seen from the front is clear.
Notice the asymmetry of the flank fat deposits.
Post-operatively, slight asymmetry is again noted, but now with the left being slightly fuller.
A man of 50 with some flank excess and some age-related looseness to the skin.
The flanks have shrunk well will little evidence of skin laxity. (The flank areas tend to shrink well even in patients beyond the age of 50.)
Typical male-pattern flank fat distribution. Like the hips and lateral thighs in women, these deposits are difficult to eliminate by diet and exercise.
Surgery has produced a more pleasing, slight concavity to both flanks.
This Photo shows a man of 42 with a larger and broader flank deposit.
The flank as seen 6 months after suction lipectomy.
The patient's right flank is just slightly more full than the left.
This result pleased the patient, although there may have been a slight under-treatment of the right side.
A typical "spare tire" in a muscular, fit 31 year old man.
Fat in areas like these on men is held in small, fibrous compartments. Extraction is more difficult and swelling and firmness persist longer then in many other body regions.
Appearance 10 months post-operatively. (Notice the small irregularity just below the right hip.) The patient was satisfied with the outcome.
Female, "gynoid" shape typically calls for extra fat to be held below the flanks, over and below the pelvic brim, (the "hips."). However, some patients may have a more male-like distribution, or, as with this patient, may have hip fat that blends up into the lower flank areas.
Liposuction has created the needed concavity, accentuating the roundness of the buttocks below.
Here, the flank thickness above the buttocks detracts from an otherwise attractive contour.
The buttocks appear more defined and compact after treating the flanks.
A very large man of 35 years with abdominal fat excess and very large flank deposits.
Power assisted liposuction ("PAL") or ultrasound assisted liposuction ("UAL") can both help in extractions like these.
The size of these flank deposits can be more fully appreciated in this Photo.
The patient was glad to accept the small irregularities seen on each side for the dramatic shape change accomplished.
