Skin Graft

This is a "dermatome" used for raising skin grafts.

This shows the donor area after a skin graft has been raised. Because only a partial thickness of skin has been taken, the area will heal spontaneously like a "scraped knee."

This patient's hand was badly burned. Scar prevented him from moving the thumb away from the hand to touch his fingertips.

This is the appearance after the scar was excised and the thumb freed.

Here the graft is shown secured in place.

The healed graft allows opposition of the thumb to the other fingers and a return of normal fine grasp.
